Remembering Hurricane Harvey {One Year Later}

Image
This is a friend’s house in Dickinson which was raised a few years ago 4.5 feet off of the ground. They were one of the only ones in this neighborhood close to the bayou that suffered minimal damage. This family was rescued by boat by one of my husband’s brothers. I honestly can’t believe it’s already been a year since one of the most devastating hurricanes hit the Gulf Coast.  No one expected all the damage Hurricane Harvey would do to Texas and the surrounding areas.  I figured I might as well write about our experience so that we will always have an account of the unthinkable catastrophe that occurred in August of last year. On Friday, August 25, 2017, Category 4 Hurricane Harvey began its barrage against Texas. We live near Houston and no one expected it to get bad here since it was due to hit Corpus Christi and Port Aransas which are about 200 miles southeast of us.  Little did many know that we were on the “dirty” side of the storm and would rec...

Our Little Man Turns Two {The Birth Story of Lil M}

Image
Our Little Man. Our little man turned two years old this past weekend and I had every intention of writing this and posting it on his birthday but running a business and this thing called life tends to get in the way.  It wasn’t really a very eventful day but that’s probably because we had a semi-birthday party a few weeks ago. Lil M (I call him Lil M when writing about him in order to differentiate between my husband since they share the same name) didn’t care and had a grand time anyway.  In honor of Lil M’s birthday, I decided I wanted to write out his birth story while I still somewhat remember it! It will probably be boring to most, but who knows?…maybe it will inspire someone? Haha, yes, I know that’s a good one(insert winking and laughing emojis here). This slideshow requires JavaScript. First off, I will start by saying that I am one of those “crunchy” moms who prefers avoiding hospitals and doctors as much as possible, and instead...

Homemade Applesauce in the Crockpot!

My youngest turned 6 months old (how can my happy baby be 6 months already!?!?) this week which means she gets to start eating solid food.  I prefer to wait to feed solids until my kids are this age and able to sit up on their own because it is best for their overall health and especially their gut health. Babies shouldn’t get solids before 6 months since most of the time their body is just simply not ready for it and can’t digest it properly.  That is why it is so important to exclusively breastfeed until at least 6 months (if you are able) since breastmilk changes for what each baby needs. (No judgement here for those moms that aren’t able to breastfeed and must formula feed instead. You know what’s best for your family.) I had plenty of organic apples (I prefer organic apples as apples are on the “Dirty Dozen” list) so I decided to make some organic applesauce. All...
